WELCOME!

I'm Lee Marshall, a homeschool evaluator and licensed teacher living in the Blue Ridge Mountains of central Virginia.

Whether you're a veteran homeschooler or just feeling out homeschooling for the first time, I'm so glad you're here! If you already know that you want me to write your homeschool evaluation, click the link below to get started. Otherwise, you're welcome to pour a cup of coffee, pull up a chair, and get to know me.

About

Hello there! I'm Lee Marshall, a veteran and award winning public high school teacher. Although I currently teach online, I spent a decade teaching in some of the toughest inner city and Title 1 schools in the country. During that time I also homeschooled my (neurodiverse and gifted!) son all the way through high school. Because of those experiences, I'm dedicated to helping kids access whichever types of education works for them. I advocate for every child to have access to an education tailored to their needs and interests.

About Virginia homeschool evaluations

Easy, online homeschool evaluations for $125 per student.

Virginia homeschool evaluation

The State of Virginia requires every homeschooled child to either participate in the same, high-stakes, high-stress standardized testing their public schools teach to, or to have their homeschooling curriculum evaluated by a certified educator. Since high-stakes, high-stress multiple choice testing leaves much of a student’s educational needs and potential unaddressed, I offer homeschool evaluation services that are non-invasive, non-judgmental, and easily affordable. I've streamlined the process to make it as accessible and painless as possible for both you and your student.

How online Virginia homeschool evaluations work

How It Works

1. Fill out the evaluation form.

I created a form to gather all the information I need to know about your homeschool journey. I wanted the process to feel comfortable and easy for busy homeschool families, while still providing the evidence of progress needed to satisfy state requirements.

3. Log-in and upload any documents

Use the instructions found in the follow-up email to create an account and log-in to upload any documents you think would help me evaluate your homeschooler. You can keep your account and upload documents through the next school year to make next year's evaluation even easier.

2. I'll send you a follow-up email.

I'll send you a response letting you know I think we're a good fit and to discuss any follow-up questions or documents that would help me write the best evaluation letter possible. (And if we're not a good fit for any reason, I'll be honest about that up front, free of charge!) The email will also include payment information. I charge $125 for each student I evaluate, no matter how complex their needs are.

4. I will upload your evaluation letter so you can send a copy to your superintendent.

As soon as your payment goes through and you've had time to upload your homeschooler's portfolio, I will upload the evaluation letter so that you can print it out and send it to your superintendent. That way you can read my evaluation before you send it and know everything I say about your homeschool and your student.

online Virginia homeschool evaluation

An online homeschool evaluation is a good fit for you if...

  • You are a Virginia homeschool family.

  • You have a neurodiverse student or a student with learning differences/disabilities that struggles to showcase what they've learned on standardized tests.

  • Your student has test anxiety.

  • Your educational philosophy doesn't include standardized testing, or you homeschool so that you don't have to "teach to the test."

  • You want a more personalized approach to evaluating your student's academic progress than standardized testing can provide.

  • Homeschooling is a lot of work! You want your end-of-year evaluation to feel easy and supportive of the work you and your student have done all year long.

I'm not the evaluator for you if...

  • You are outside of Virginia and your state does not allow out-of-state evaluators.

  • Your child isn't enrolled in public or private school...but you didn't actually homeschool either.

  • Sometimes people joke about homeschoolers locking their child in a Harry Potter closet, but you literally do. As a state mandated reporter, I will contact CPS if you are abusing your child.
